Of Counsel (Retired)
John G. Sahn has retired as “of counsel” to the Peoria law firm of Kavanagh, Scully, Sudow, White & Frederick, P.C. Following service as Chief of the Civil Division in the Office of the Peoria County State’s Attorney, John was engaged in the general practice of law for ten years in the firm of Leiter, Sahn, Brady & Assoc. In 1988, he became Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of CILCORP, Inc., an NYSE-listed company and parent of Central Illinois Light Company. Following a transfer of ownership of CILCORP in 2000, John served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the John C. Proctor Endowment.
John has remained active in leadership of numerous not-for-profit and philanthropic organizations in the Peoria area. He has served as Chairman of the Board of the following: Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce; Community Foundation of Central Illinois; Institute of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation; Human Service Center; Methodist Medical Center Foundation; American Red Cross (Central Illinois Chapter); Neighborhood House Association; Western Avenue Greenway; Kiwanis Club of Peoria and Keep Peoria Beautiful. He has also served on the board of Methodist Health Services Corporation, Proctor Healthcare Corporation and previously served on the board, and as Vice President, of the Forest Park Foundation. He has been a member of the Peoria Fire & Police Commission and the Peoria Race Relations Commission, and, for several years, taught Bradley University’s MBA course on the Legal and Social Environment of Business.
Born in Chicago, John is married to the former Linda Gates of Peoria and they have four children and five grandchildren. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Philosophy from St. Mary’s University in Minnesota, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University, and a Juris Doctor Degree from IIT/Chicago-Kent College of Law in Chicago. He served in the U. S. Army from 1970 to 1972.
John currently serves as the Chairman of the Peoria Chapter of SCORE. SCORE is a nation-wide, nonprofit association dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground, grow and achieve their goals through education and mentorship.
