WEST PEORIA, Ill. -- A new veterans memorial is one step closer to completion thanks to some generous people.
The Peoria County Veterans Memorial committee held a fundraiser at Jimmy's Bar Sunday where they served food in exchange for donations. The group is raising money to build a veterans memorial in front of the Peoria County Courthouse.
"It's going to list not only the names of those died in service during Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan but it's also going to have information about each of the conflicts," said Bruce Thiemann, Peoria County Veterans Memorial Committee.
Memorials represent the life of men and women who were willing to step forward and be part of protecting America," said Hal Fritz, Peoria County Veterans Memorial Committee.
The memorial called, A Final Salute, will honor Peoria County veterans who served in the military since World War II.
