David J. Walvoord

David maintains an Of Counsel association with the Firm while enjoying retirement.  He remains a valuable asset to all Kavanagh attorneys for consultation, his vast experience, and his institutional memory.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, David was a trust administrator at the Chicago Loop Bank and the American National Bank & Trust Company. He gained extensive experience in the areas of Estate Planning, Trust Administration, and Probate Administration. David joined the Kavanagh Firm in 1968 and became a Partner in 1970.  Under the mentorship of William “Mac” Frederick, a namesake of the Firm, Education Law became David’s expertise, and he served as general counsel for Peoria School District 150 until his retirement in 2010. 

During his four decades of practice, David represented school boards, administrators, and special school associations on matters of general policy, labor and employment, special education, finance and budget, intergovernmental relations, and all aspects of educational change on the local, state, and federal levels.

David and his family have lived in Peoria since 1968.  He remains active in the community, including affiliation with the nonprofit Cancer Center for Healthy Living at the Hult Health Education Center.
